Raven Thornheart started writing in junior high and never stopped

Raven working with her advisor, Aphrodite, on The 9th Brother.

Raven's writing began at Baptiste Junior High School under teacher and author David Anstaett.  Raven received her first writing award as a senior at Hickman Mills High School, class of 1986.  She wrote her first novel, Murder Most Fit about the murder of playboy/trainer Dirk Keets in a 1980s health club, in her grandparents' basement.  Raven also enjoyed contributing to the Kansas City based The Rune magazine.

Of Raven's first historical romance, Destiny, Heartland Critiques hailed it "as much fun as Alexander Dumas' The Three Musketeers."  Raven's latest project is The Sheppard Family Chronicles.  The first of the series, The 9th Brother, is complete. The second instalment, Yesterday Colors Tomrrow is in editting. The third instalment, The Consequences of Family is in the writing phase. Publication information will be posted soon, check back with us often.

Raven's writing idols are Jacqueline Suzanne, Julie Garwood and Jackie Collins.
Playing in history

Raven's love of the written word is matched by her love of medieval history.  A lady in the Society for Creative Anachronisms, Raven enjoys researching, period cooking and creating subtleties.  Eleanor of Aquitaine is Raven's favorite historical figure.

When she's not writing

Raven is an accomplished, self taught chef.  Raven placed 7th out of a field of over 2000 in the PBS series, Master Chefs, USA, in 2000.
Her family has been making the same sugar cookie recipe since before it was brought to the US by Raven's great-great grandmother, Katharina Czinczoll in the 1800s.

Raven is an admitted soap opera junkie.  She has watched daytime serials as long as she can remember.  One of Raven's earliest memories is of The Young and The Restless' Katherine Chancelor standing before her massive closet choosing her outfit for crashing her own funeral.  Raven even went for Halloween as All My Children's Erica Kane at the age of 6.  The only time Raven will admit to skipping clss was the day Luke and Laura were married on General Hospital.  Although she was joined by a handful of friends and a teacher.

Raven also enjoys genealogy.  Raven has traced several branches of her and her husband's families.  Some branches go back 40 generations.

Raven greatly admires Dame Elizabeth Taylor for her tireless dedication to helping others (& her taste in emeralds).

Raven also holds a special affection for the ballet superstar, Mikhail Baryshnikov.  A would-be ballet dancer as a child, she longed to be on the same stage in the corps de ballet, but had to give up the fantasy after a "career" ending knee injury.  Now she just admires from afar, but hopes to pass on her love of ballet to her granddaughters and to be their 1st teacher.

No matter what you have, if you don't have family, you don't have anything.

There is only one love that surpasses Raven's passion for writing and that is her family.

Raven is the mother of five amazing kids from 23 to 12; Jennifer, Megan, Reno, Laird and Taliesin; and the Nini of four gorgeous granddaughters; Makayla, Peyton, Alexis and Jenna & one tough grandson, Weslyn.  Raven and her husband Steven also enjoy two "bonus" grandkids; AJ and Autumn.

Four rambunctious rescued dogs; Jessie, Aphrodite, DarkStar and Yates; keep the family on their toes. Raven strongly encourage her readers to spay & neuter and to adopt a shelter pet instead of buying from a breeder.

Raven is an only child.  She was very close to her devoted grandparents, Felix and Mary Kay, who both played a significant role in Raven's life.  Raven's grandmother instilled in her the love of family.  The 9th Brother is in honor of Felix and Mary Kay.
